Secondolphin’s Weblog

About Christy

Hi! My name is Christy.  I teach 3rd grade in a small school.  I love my job. Teaching students how to go beyond just reading a book, but enjoying and being consumed by the story and characters is a daily joy.  I am happily married to my sweetheart John.  We have been married for 7 years.  We do not have children, but are looking forward to adopting an infant in the very near future. We enjoy the company of our exuberant, silky, ebony, love sponge, Sparkles.  She found my husband one day after she had been thrown into a trash can.  She lives up to her name by adding sparkle and a zest for life to each day. I am very involved in church.  I work with the youth.  I plan activities and I am constantly on the go with these wonderful people.  They keep me on my toes.

I am taking this post and placing it here on my page I felt that it was a better fit here anyway.  Oh in case you are interested, secondolphin.  The second is there because well, I taught 2nd grade for 7 years.  Dolphin, because it is my favorite animal, besides Sparkles.  Plus I wanted to be a marine biologist.  So secondolphin was made up by myself about man could it be 9 years ago when I started teaching and I just had to have a hotmail address. I have had it so long that anytime I need a password or username or something creative I use it.  The thought never entered my mind to use my actual name for this site. I think it is interesting to know why people choose the songs on their blogs and websites.  I think that it tells you more about that person’s personlity and life.  So I will share with you about the songs that I chose to add to my blog.  The first song is there just because it was really cold in my house on the day that I chose it and I am a hopeless romantic.  The song Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off reminds me of cooking supper with my mother as I was growing up.  She would sing the part about the potato and tomato.

The Nat King Cole selections remind me of my grandparents.  I enjoyed living with them for a time.  They are wonderful people who are fun, and so in love.  My Granfather is gone now, but I still treasure every memory of him.

Now for the classical music selections… My father is a band director.  Every Saturday was house cleaning day.  My father would pick out an assortment of classical tunes to clean the house by.  I love music by Chopin and Mozart.  They are two of my favorite composers.  I love the intricate and complex tunes and melodies that their music embody.  No matter how many times I listen to a peice, I can always pick out a new part that I have never heard before.  Chopin’s haunting melodies provoke feelings of passion and relaxation. (That’s just my opinion)  The way the piano clings to those last few notes and draws your ear closer to hear the conclusion of the musical statement…hhmmmm.  I love that Mozart’s piano peices sound as if it takes 2 people to play.  I’m sure that the piano player longs for some assistance on the keyboard.

Finally, the last peice, Chopin’s 14 Waltzes in B Minor was used a great deal by my ballet teacher for barre exercises.  I took ballet for 15 years.  I even danced on my toes.  I just love to hear this song.  It always transports me back in time.  I can close my eyes and imagine myself back in the dance studio standing at the barre in my black leotard and bubble gum pink tights.  I can see Mrs. Peters standing at her barre thoughtfully planning out each and every step.  The late afternoon sun would pour in from the 6 large windows of the studio and illuminate the room enough that the overhead lights were not necessary.  I can still smell the comforting scent of our little pink leather ballet slippers that lovingly and awkwardly caressed the floor.  With each note of the music came the familiar swooshing sounds of those same little leather shoes performing each step as seriously as if each belonged to a prima ballerina.

Sorry I got carried away.  I hope that maybe as you listen to my song choices, you will be able to picture potato dinners, classical Saturdays and prima ballerinas.
